NHS Surcharge to be increased effective 6 February 2024

The Houses of Parliament have now approved the increase to the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and this will come into law on 6 February 2024.

We therefore anticipated that all visa applications submitted on or after the 6 February 2024 will incur the following IHS fee:

  • £1,035 per applicant per year (an increase from £624)
  • £776 for applicants under the age of 18, and those applying under the student and Youth Mobility visa routes (an increase from £470)

Our Internal Forms and guidance documents will be updated on or shortly after the 6 February 2024.

No changes are being made to the University Visa Loan Scheme, or Reimbursement Policy but we will keep this under review.

The Staff Immigration Team will be prioritising current requests for Skilled Worker, Tier 5 and Global Talent cases and will endeavour to support as many applicants to make the visa application prior to this increase.

Based on current processing times new requests submitted to the team will unfortunately result in the applicant submitting the visa application after 6 February and therefore incurring the higher IHS charge.

In the lead up to the 6 February our team will be extremely busy whilst we focus on supporting applicants, this may result in a delay to other queries. We would ask you to support the team by not chasing for responses and clearly outlining the context of the email in the subject title.

Any questions on the Immigration Health Surcharge increase can be directed to Lisa Crook and Tim Currie in the first instance.
